Thats How They Do It

Building new apartments (like they need them). This place is jam packed with apartments and buildings, but very little parking.  Everything is built with Concrete here. Wood is expensive and hard to come by.

Mommy, Can I Have One

This is called a Bakalla, it is like a mini convenient store. They sell all kinds of food items, cigarettes, newspapers and of course alot of cheap toys. They decorate the outside of the store with all these toys, to attract the kids. Since the people here seemed to have lost the ability to tell their children NO, it brings in business.
You can just pull up to the curb and honk your horn, and a man will come out to ask what you want. Then he will go in and get it for you and bring it out. Very convenient for some one like me wo has small children, but it is mostly for the lazy, there are alot of them here.  This really brings in business. They even deliver.
Michael allways asks for a toy, but I have definately not lost my ability to tell my children NO.

"If the Moon Stays up Till Morning One Day"

Well in this case "If the moon comes up before the sun goes down"
I love the book "The Night You Where Born" and every time I see the moon during the day I think of this book.  It seem that lately it has been out everyday. around 4 pm it shows up. It is amazing to think that I am looking at the same moon that is shining over most of my family and friends in the US, While they are sleeping.

Make Up Day, Thursday

In this picture you see the speed limit. 120 Kilometers per hour, but it really is a suggestion here. The average speed in any of the three lanes is 120 but you can easily get behind someone doing 60, or get flashed by someone coming up behind you doing 160-180. Remind me to post a picture of what is a common consequence of the two drastic differences.
And the boat, Not sure why it is there but it has been there for as long as I have been here.

This is me, in the line of traffic at the off ramp, and this is on a good day!

Make Up Day, Wednesday

okay so I have been taking pictures just haven't had the time to post them I will try to catch up.

Our neighbors yard, called a garden.. It really is something in this desert. Especially since most houses don't have them.

The front of our house (we live on the third floor). And Hussein, the Heirress.

Driving in Kuwait

I finally took the camera out with me to get some pictures. I was hoping to get some of the gulf, the water is actually quite pretty on a clear day, but as you can tell it wasn't clear.
No, that is not fog, or smog, that my friends, is SAND! Also known as a dust storm. this is a very mild one, but enought to leave a layer of fine sand all over the car.

Give Us This Day, Our Daily Bread

I have missed alot of days all ready and to all my followers I am sorry. I am starting over and going to make a better effort at this.
Friday's are the "sabbath" day here in kuwait. The day that the men go to the Mosque's to pray and the women prepare for the big family feasts, and by family I mean all the extended family. SO BIG dinners. Because of this it is also our church day since it is the day "most" people have off (I quote most because my husband is not included in this)
And, for those who care to know, going to church by yourself and three boys is not easy. But the service is totally worth the battle of getting there!

Soup, It's What's For Dinner

Since Samuel is super sensitive to any dairy or gassy foods in my diet I have been quite restricted. I want to make healthy meals but my vegetable availability is slim. It seems zucchini, squash, potato and sweet potato are it for now. Well, I could eat sauted zucchini everyday, but I think my Husband would be a bit less enthusiatic, and the kids......
So here is the soup. A creamy zucchini soup with out any dairy.  I used potato to cream it up with a bit of flour. Add some roast turkey, so yummy, and I think I now have a replacment for cream of mushroom soup; for all those casserole recipes!

Calling My Name

One Month

Samuel just turned 1 month old! we got the passport applied for along with and American birth certificate. All we have to do is get his Kuwaiti residency, which is going to cost us $1070 for a one year residency. You say WOW; uh, yeah. only because he is our third child. the price just goes up from here. Guess we won't be having anymore kids while living here.

Brotherly Love

really late post for yesterday the 11th

and this is the reason why!

One late night of  last good bye's to our close friends. It is never easy when friends move away, but when you live in a foriegn country and are so far away from family and what you know. Then friendships become something so much more.  We are really going to miss them.

Passport

Trying to take a photo of a baby for a passport is so hard.  After about 27 pictures taken I think we have one that might pass the embassy's standards.
The winner is

January 7th, a little late.

Banana Bread YUMMY! (that I can't eat because it seems Sam has a dairy intolerence:I ).
What I bake in;  It is a gas stove with six burners.
Because gas is so cheap, it really is the way to go; plus I love cooking with gas. Not to mention that the electrical wiring is not the best here. So even though you can buy an electrive oven (which is wickedly expensive) you ar very likely to pop a fuse or even blow the whole circuit.
The gas, it comes in these cylinders, not piped into the house.  I have a spare incase I run out in the middle of dinner (been known to happen on more then one occassion) and the nice heiress (who happens to be a man and doesn't inherit anything, he just looks after the house) will replace my empty bottles for me!

Dreaming

This is Joseph, one of our three cats that we brought with us from the states.  The move was rough but living here is much harder on the cats. going from a big back yard with a privacy fence to apartment living with little direct sunlight.  There is lots of sitting by the window and dreaming being done.

Thank You Lord for so many blessing!
